Active Release Technique
What is Active Release Techniques?
ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system /movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
How do overuse conditions occur?
Over used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways: acute conditions (pulls/tears/collisions, etc), accumulation of small tears, and not getting enough oxygen.
- Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely.
- As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons cause tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
What is an ART treatment like?
Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

Chiropractic Adjustments
Our doctors use the most advanced chiropractic techniques. This means the treatments are safer than ever. Our doctors have many years of training to give their patients the care and results they deserve . In addition , we offer adjustments that you will not even hear a sound when it takes place. No matter what age an adjustment will allow your body to work better and you will feel better.
Functional Movement Screening (FMS)
NEW! FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.
Cold Laser
The goal of laser therapy is to deliver light energy units from infrared laser radiation, caled photons, to damaged cells. It is the consensus of experts is that photons absorbed by the cells through laser therapy stimulate the mitochondria to accelerate production of ATP. This biochemical increase in cell energy is used to transform live cells from a state of illness to a stable, healthy state. Great for getting out of acute pain!
Shockwave Therapy
Why is it cutting-edge?
Because it uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate your body’s healing at a cellular level—something traditional therapies simply can’t do.
It helps to:
-
Break up deep scar tissue
-
Increase blood flow
-
Trigger new tissue regeneration
-
Speed recovery in stubborn, chronic injuries
Fast. Non-invasive. No downtime.
This is next-level healing—right here at Bates Chiropractic and Sports Therapy.
